SPVUK will then enter into contracts with each individual contractor, and pay for work in arrears. This ensures no large upfront payments are made, as you will have an easy to use staggered one-channel payment system through SPVUK. For peace of mind, all warranty and insurance, including all certifications, will be handed over to you at the end of the project.

SPV started in 2008, working on masonry repairs and has grown over the last 14 years to become an architectural practice and a team of historic building construction experts that co-ordinate and carry out a wide variety of projects taking them from start to finish. Our construction team work both with our in house architect’s team and with other architects and professionals.
We undertake all types of architectural design and building work, predominantly involving historic and listed buildings, whether that is an extension to a historic house or a full-scale repair of a castle. If you are considering a ‘Grand Design’ in a difficult context, we can also take that from initial design stage to completion of the build.
That depends on several factors. Having our design and construction teams working together saves time and we can fairly accurately work out a programme from early stages. As an absolute minimum it will take 6 months to get a project from an initial idea to start on site, but this will be longer if the project is more complex.
Please bear in mind that before starting your project you will likely need to have party wall agreements, building regulation drawings and council approval. These items usually take an average of 3 months to be completed.
In the vast majority of cases, a loft conversion will fall under permitted development, meaning that you won’t need to apply for planning permission. Where this isn’t the case, we can work through the process with you. It’s worth remembering that if planning permission is required, this can add to the overall duration of your project.
There are ways to increase the head height in your loft space. The first, is to increase your roof height, which involves getting planning permission from your local authority. The second, is to lower the floor. This option will impact the floor below, and we’ll take measurements to ensure that the lower floor head height will remain acceptable.

This is a personal choice, and we want you to be as comfortable as possible while we’re working on your loft conversion.
You don’t need to stay at home if you have other work or life commitments, and we can work with you to agree on how to manage this. We would, however, request that a spare set of keys are given to your dedicated project manager so that we can work on your project regardless of whether you are at home or not.
You might still be able to change your mind about the layout and positioning of electrics or plumbing, depending on the stage of the project. It’s worth considering that changes will impact on costs and timescales, and you’ll need to speak to your dedicated project manager to discuss your needs. Because of this, we strongly recommend that you decide as much of the detail on the project as possible at the design stage to prevent any additional charges or delays.
In the majority of cases there will be no disruption to your services during the works. In some cases, you may have items such as a gas pipe, a boiler or water tank in the loft. You should arrange for these to be relocated ahead of the works starting, alternatively we can provide you with a quotation to carry out this work.
Children and pets should still be able to access most of your home in the usual way. It is advised that access to the loft space during construction is restricted, and we can discuss ways you can achieve this at our initial site visit.
This depends on the age and capacity of the boiler and the size of property. Unless the boiler is already in the loft and needs to be removed as part of the loft works, most homeowners choose to keep the current boiler and change it at a later date because it is not interfacing with the loft. You can speak to our plumber during the works to work out if this might be needed on your project.

Various professionals will need to be on-site, and the number of people physically situated on-site at any given time will depend on the works being done. For example: during the structural and roofing stages, you could have 3 to 5 people on your project. During the fit-out stages, this usually drops down to 1 or 2.

Before we leave site, your house will be swept, cleared of waste and leftover materials, and items used to protect high traffic areas or furnishings will be removed.
